Secretary of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, Roman Kostenko, said that the information about Ukraine's losses in the article of the American publication The Wall Street Journal is exaggerated.

Kostenko said this on September 18 on the air of Freedom. Morning (Radio Svoboda project).

According to him, the WSJ data on the alleged 80,000 killed servicemen of the Defense Forces of Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the russian federation are exaggerated.

Kostenko also considers the figure of 50,000 to be overestimated or approximate. At the same time, he emphasized that he does not have accurate information about the losses of the Ukrainian army.

"I think these are exaggerated data. Undoubtedly. Those that exist. Precisely, if we are talking about the killed, those that we have recognized," Kostenko said.

He added that during the last two years "we had about the same number of 19,000 each".

Kostenko emphasized that it is only about those who were officially recognized as killed, which confirms the issued death certificate.

The day before, The Wall Street Journal published an article in which it is said that the total losses of Ukraine and russia since February 2022 have reached one million people.

According to the publication, russia lost 200,000 people killed, Ukraine - allegedly 80,000. Also, 400,000 servicemen were wounded on both sides each.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in November 2023, The Economist wrote that Ukraine allegedly lost at least 70,000 people killed.
