Russians almost half emptied equipment storage base near border with Japan

Russia, Russian army, Russia's war against Ukraine, losses of Russian troops, losses of Russian equipment

The russians practically half-emptied the armored vehicle storage base on Sakhalin Island. In two and a half years, more than 250 pieces of equipment were taken out of it to be sent to the front in Ukraine.

The russian publication The Moscow Times writes about this after analyzing satellite images.

It is about the "Dachnoe" armored vehicle storage base in the area of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. It is the most distant russian base, located approximately 6,000 kilometers from Ukraine.

It is noted that Sakhalin does not have a direct connection with the continental part of the russian federation, so the russians had to use ships or planes to transport armored vehicles.

Before the start of the full-scale invasion, the base stored T-72 tanks, 2S3 Akatsiya self-propelled artillery systems, 2S12 mortars, Grad salvo rocket systems, as well as Strela-10 and Shylka anti-aircraft guns.

After studying the satellite images, the journalists came to the conclusion that before the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, 593 units of armored vehicles were stored at the open-air base.

As of May 2024, journalists counted 342 units on the territory of the storage base.

This indicates that the russians removed 251 units of armored vehicles from storage (about 43%).

The publication noted that there are several hangars on the territory of the base. Presumably, there is also some equipment inside them. It is impossible to estimate its amount.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the day before the Oryx site, which is engaged in calculating the losses of the russian army, noted that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the russians have lost more than 10,000 tanks and armored fighting vehicles.

It will be recalled that in July of this year, the German publication Süddeutsche Zeitung (SZ) wrote that if the current pace of hostilities is maintained, russia will have enough equipment for another 2-3 years.
