MP Zadorozhnyi, for the first time among all MPs, openly hints that he took bribe, but said that other MPs are also not saints

Member of the Verkhovna Rada Mykola Zadorozhnyi, who is suspected of extorting bribe, actually admitted that he took bribes, but stated that he was not the only one and that other Members of Parliament also took bribes.

He said this during a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"I would like to say to Ms. Iryna Herashchenko (MP from European Solidarity): in your faction there are also people who took bribes and for some reason they also go to the session hall and all work within the limits of the current legislation. Therefore, we will work as the law allows," Zadorozhnyi said.

He added that he is currently suspended from work within the Servant of the People faction.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, MP Zadorozhnyi leased a car before he was caught demanding a bribe. Zadorozhnyi was expelled from the Servant of the People party. Earlier, he was accused of extorting a bribe for the repair of a water main in the Sumy Region. As the investigation established, in March 2024, the MP requested the head of the village council in the Sumy Region to provide an illegal benefit for not obstructing the tender for the repair of a water main in the Okhtyrka district of the Sumy Region. His "kickback", as the NABU and SACPO found out, amounted to 10% of the total amount of the concluded contract, and another 4% was intended for local law enforcement officers, who were not supposed to hinder the mastering of the allocated funds. According to the investigation, it is a total of UAH 3.4 million.
