Transit of russian gas through Ukraine continues despite hostilities in Kursk Oblast - Bloomberg

Ukraine and the aggressor country of russia intend to continue transiting natural gas to Europe, despite the active hostilities in the Kursk Oblast.

This was reported by the Bloomberg agency on August 12 with reference to its own sources.

The agency notes that the offensive of the Ukrainian army on the territory of the Kursk Oblast led to an increase in gas prices to the highest level this year. This is due to fears that gas supplies to Europe may be disrupted in general.

The anxiety in the market is related to the fact that hostilities in the Kursk Oblast continue near the Sudzha gas measuring station.

Through this station, russian gas enters Ukraine, through which it is supplied in transit to European countries.

According to two unnamed interlocutors of the agency, the Sudzha gas measuring station is currently under the control of the Ukrainian military.

As Bloomberg writes, both parties have a financial interest in ensuring that gas continues to flow to Europe. For Kyiv, gas transit provides the most important funds for the war-ravaged economy - about USD 1 billion in 2021.

Ukraine also wants to be seen as a reliable partner of the European Union, hoping that the countries of the bloc will more actively use its underground gas storages.

One of the interlocutors of the agency emphasized that the closeness of the hostilities to the Sudzha station may lead to the cessation of gas supply.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on August 8, the American publication The Washington Post wrote with reference to its own sources that the Sudzha gas measuring station is under the control of the Ukrainian military.

It will be recalled that on August 12, Radio Svoboda showed a satellite image of the Sudzha gas measuring station, which shows significant damage to the facility.
