The mayor of Budapest, Gergely Karácsony, warned that the city was at risk of facing the biggest flood of the decade.

The main water resources management of Hungary reported that the level of the Danube reached a peak of 6.93 meters on the evening of September 18. This is two meters less than what was recorded during severe floods in Central Europe at the end of May 2013.

The water level in the Danube is expected to reach 8.5 meters near the city.

Traffic restrictions have been introduced in some places in the country.

Due to the flood, the international railway connection between Hungary and the Czech Republic, Poland and Germany will be disrupted.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on September 16, the Polish government declared a state of emergency in parts of the Lower Silesian, Opole, and Silesian voivodships in the south and southwest of the country.

A great flood is raging in Europe, which is already being called the biggest in the last 30 years. In Romania and Poland, there are already the first deaths.
