The European Union will help Ukraine cover more than 25% of its energy needs in winter.

This was announced by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, during a joint press conference with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

She reported that the European Commission has developed a plan to support the Ukrainian energy industry in the winter period. In particular, it provides for the restoration of 2.5 GW of energy capacity, which is approximately 15% of winter needs, as well as the continuation of Ukraine's accession to the European energy network.

The EU plans to export 2 GW of electricity to Ukraine, which will cover approximately 12% of winter needs and ensure stable energy supply in all regions.

"With these two directions: repair and connection - we cover more than 25% of Ukraine's needs for the winter," von der Leyen said.

She noted that the EU sends mobile gas turbines and solar panels to Ukraine.

The European Commission has also adopted proposals that will enable the EU to provide Ukraine with a loan of up to EUR 35 billion from the aid package agreed upon by the Group of Seven.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, von der Leyen announced on September 19 that the European Union has allocated EUR 160 million to support Ukraine's energy security, including about EUR 100 million from proceeds from frozen russian assets in the EU.

According to her, EU support for Ukraine's energy security from February 2022 will amount to at least EUR 2 billion.
