Whole CHPP disassembled in Lithuania to be transferred to Ukraine - European Commission head

Ukraine will receive a power plant from Lithuania, which is currently being dismantled and disassembled for this purpose, the Head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said during her visit to Kyiv.

Von der Leyen emphasized that the aggressor country has already destroyed 80% of the thermal power plants and a third of the hydroelectric power plants of Ukraine in order to plunge it into darkness.

At the first stage, the EU will help Ukraine to repair the energy infrastructure in order to restore 2.5 gigawatts of capacity.

"As we speak, there is a full-fledged thermal power plant that is being dismantled in Lithuania and sent to Ukraine in parts with our support," the Head of the European Commission said.

The European Union will also continue exporting electricity to Ukraine to supply 2 gigawatts of electricity, which is equivalent to the loss of electricity from the occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on September 20, the Head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced that the European Commission will provide Ukraine with a loan of up to EUR 35 billion as part of the G7 pledge.

Von der Leyen also announced that the European Union has allocated EUR 160 million to support Ukraine's energy security.
