Israel eliminates high-ranking Hezbollah commander in Beirut

Israel, Lebanon, Hezbollah, elimination

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the elimination of the high-ranking commander of the terrorist group Hezbollah, Ibrahim Akil, as a result of an airstrike on the capital of Lebanon, Beirut.

This was reported by The Times of Israel on Friday, September 20, with reference to the IDF statement.

The IDF said that Akil was the head of Hezbollah's military operations, the acting commander of the Radwan elite terrorist forces, and the leader of the plan to invade the Galilee (the historic region in northern Israel, on the border with Lebanon).

"Akil and the eliminated commanders were among the architects of the 'Galilee occupation plan', in which Hezbollah planned to raid Israeli territory, occupy Galilee communities, kill and kill innocents, similar to what the terrorist organization Hamas carried out during the October 7 bloody massacre," the IDF said in a statement.

According to the military, during the strike, the top leadership of the operative apparatus of Hezbollah and the leadership of Radwan were killed.

According to the IDF, Akil joined Hezbollah in the 1980s and was responsible for the terrorist group's attacks outside Lebanon. The military says he has been involved in many attacks in other countries, including those against civilians. Since 2004, Akil has served as the head of Hezbollah's operational array, responsible for bombing, air defense and other aspects of terrorist activity.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on September 17, the devices that the militants of the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah use for communication began to explode simultaneously throughout Lebanon.

On September 18, a new wave of explosions swept through Lebanon.

On September 19, the leader of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, during a televised address, said that the explosions of pagers and other devices in Lebanon can be called a "declaration of war" on the part of Israel.
